Solo Photoshoot in Paris: What if You Do Not Know How to Pose?

By Vadim Hedonist

A solo photoshoot in Paris can feel unfamiliar at first, especially if you rarely spend time in front of a camera.

You do not need to arrive knowing what to do with your hands, where to look or how to stand. Giving clear direction is part of my job, and we start with small adjustments rather than complicated poses.

Most clients are not professional models. The session is designed around that.

Solo photoshoot in Paris: the first few minutes

A camera pointed directly at you is not a normal everyday situation.

At the beginning, I keep the direction simple.

I may change your weight, hands, shoulders, gaze or whether you are still or moving.

Small changes are usually enough.

Movement is easier than holding a pose

Walking solves a lot of problems.

Your hands move naturally, your posture changes and your expression is less fixed. It also gives us several frames from one simple action rather than asking you to hold one position for too long.

What do I do with my hands?

Depending on the outfit and frame, you can use a pocket, adjust a jacket, touch your hair, hold a bag or let the arms move while walking.

The important part is that the gesture has a reason. When a hand is doing something natural, it usually stops feeling like a problem.

Where should I look?

Not every photograph needs eye contact with the camera.

Looking away can feel less formal.

Looking directly at the camera can feel stronger and more editorial.

During a session, I use both.

You do not have to smile in every photograph

Some people naturally smile a lot. Some do not.

I do not force the same expression on everyone.

The goal is to recognize yourself in the photographs.

What if you usually do not like photographs of yourself?

Tell me.

Often it is a specific angle, posture or simply being used to seeing yourself through a phone camera.

We can adjust the framing and direction instead of forcing the same pose or expression.

Location changes how you move

At Bir-Hakeim, architecture supports stronger, more structured frames. By the Seine, movement feels easier. In the Tuileries, sitting or walking can feel more natural.

Do you need to practice poses before?

No.

It is more useful to send me a few photographs showing the overall style you like. Then I can translate that into the actual location, light and clothes we have in Paris.

If you are deciding between outfits, the guide to What to Wear for a Paris Photoshoot may also help.

See the current Solo Photoshoot in Paris options if you want to compare session lengths. You do not need to practice poses before booking - references for mood and style are more useful.
